Class 9 to 12 roadmap

A general picture for most Indian boards. Ed-Merit will share its own calendar, exam dates and subject list.

  1. Class 9: Foundations for the board years

Subjects get deeper, especially maths and science. A good year to build steady study habits before the board years.

Most boards treat Class 9 and 10 as one stretch, so the topics learnt now come back in the Class 10 board exam.

  2. Class 10: First board exams

The Class 10 board exam is usually held around February–March. Before results, families start thinking about the stream for Class 11.

Pre-board tests and practicals usually come first. Marks in Class 10 can matter for getting a preferred stream.

  3. Class 11: The stream begins

Science, Commerce or Arts. New subjects, more practicals and a big jump in difficulty, so the first months matter.

This is also when many students start preparing for entrance exams such as JEE, NEET, CUET or CLAT.

  4. Class 12: Final boards and what comes next

The Class 12 board exam, entrance exams and college applications, usually all in the same few months.

Board marks, entrance scores and application dates all need planning. Ask the school how it helps students with this.
